Southern Connecticut State University gave me a great education to launch my career in Journalism. Two of my favorite memories are working late into the evening on a Southern News deadline (where I was news editor and co-sports editor). And, my first day of news writing class when our instructor, Dick Conrad, an investigative reporter with the New Haven Register gave us all a number when he checked us in. Turns out the number was for a parcel of property in New Haven. Our task? Go out and do a title search on the property and find out who owned it and what condition the property was in. Talk to the neighbors, if we could and then report back on what we found. One of the best journalism exercises I ever did and have used this skill numerous other times throughout my career to dig into things. Thanks to Mr. Conrad, the late Robin Glassman, Jerry Dunklee and many others who taught me the value of good journalism (which is kind of needed in today’s world)!
