Some of my favorite memories from SCSU come from being on the dance team; performing, supporting our teams, and bonding with an amazing group of dancers. I also loved attending campus events, from cultural showcases to fun pop-up activities that brought our community together. Those moments made campus feel like home.
I’m going to miss cheering from the sidelines at football and basketball games, being part of campus life, and spending time with my friends. SCSU gave me a second family and a place to grow and I’ll always be grateful for that. I’ll carry those memories with me wherever I go. I’m looking forward to traveling more, spending quality time with my family and friends, and stepping into a new role in the education field. I’m also excited to begin exploring graduate programs in speech-language pathology as I continue my journey to help and inspire others.
Take your time finding your rhythm; it’s okay not to have everything figured out. I did 5 years and even changed my major. Get involved, be open to new experiences, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. There is something for everyone at Southern. The friendships you make and the passions you discover along the way will shape your college journey in the best way. Without Southern, I wouldn’t have discovered my passion for American Sign Language. And remember: advocate for yourself, take care of your mental health, and enjoy every moment because it for sure does go by faster than you think.
