Elementary Education

Initially it may seem as though it does, but the length of our undergraduate journey doesn’t matter. What matters most is how you have persevered and continued to fight for yourself, your passion and your goals. Always cherish what you have learned about yourself and how you have grown into a Southern Connecticut Graduate. Congratulations to the Class of 2023. WE MADE IT!

Favorite Time at SCSU

My favorite part about my time at SCSU has to be connecting with fellow peers on campus. I felt most welcomed, included and deserving to be at Southern when I immersed myself into the Multicultural Clubs on campus. I’ve been apart of the Caribbean Student Association since my freshman year, and I have absolutely loved my experience. I even took on the Dance Coordinator position through this loving club for about two years. I also enjoyed participating in F.A.C.E. This organization aided in growing my confidence within and feeling my best about myself by putting myself out there. Thank you to everyone I’ve met through these organizations!

What are you going to miss the most, and what are you looking forward to the most?

I am going to miss my CSA family most. Although I have spent less and less time here on campus, I never cease to continue to remain connected to the organization that made me feel at home. I will forever cherish the memories, laughs, events, bonds, and culture I’ve gotten to experience. A big thank you to the Caribbean Student Association for being my rock here at SCSU. I am looking forward to pursuing my dream of being an amazing, devoted and inspired elementary educator. I hope that I am able to give back to inner city schools and help grow the young minds of our communities. I’m also looking forward to continuing my own self growth and experiencing all that life has to offer me.

Advice to Incoming Students

I advise all incoming students to get connected onto campus. Starting out at a new location can be nerve wracking and you can feel very out of place, but I promise you that SCSU has an organization just waiting for you to lead yourself in. There are opportunities to connect with likeminded individuals all throughout campus with Southern’s many student focused events, various organizations, and staff that are standing by for any student that may need assistance. SCSU will be a brand new start, but sooner or later, it will feel like home.

Keep on being yourself, strive to be the best version of you, even if you think you’re already there, go even further.

Participating in all the CSA events and showcases, along with FACE fashion shows and ASA dance team.

What are you going to miss the most, and what are you looking forward to the most?

I’m going to miss the dorm life, living near my friends just a door away and being able to have a fun or goofy time literally any day. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life and seeing where everything I’ve done previously takes me in the future.

Advice to Incoming Students

Don’t be afraid to start new, you can become the person you want to be if you just step out of your comfort zone.
