Don’t allow people and things outside of you, your studies, and responsibilities to distract you. Don’t lose sight of your goals & most importantly yourself. Get the help you need before you need it, go to tutoring, study every day, even if it is for 30 mins, meet new people, and try new things time moves quicker than you think. Cherish every moment !!!
My favorite part of my time here was the time I spent meeting new people and making lifetime friends.
The college atmosphere is what I’ll miss the most. The events that were constantly held for the students and the fun times we had as ‘college kids’ I’m looking forward to getting my masters degree and being the first in my family to graduate from college with a masters and bachelors degree.

Some good advice I would give to new students is to try your best and never give up.
My favorite part about my time at SCSU was being in the theater. From working props backstage on Once On This Island, to working A2 on Civil in the fall semester. All the way to acting as Peter in Galathea, and then ending the spring semester off by acting in One Acts. Every moment that I got to spend in rehearsals, hanging out in the theater, and spending time with all my friends gave me joy. There are too many good times to count just one.
I am going to miss the Crescent Player community and all of my friends from the year the most. I am looking forward to where my journey into the acting world will take me, and I am most looking forward being a working actor on stage and in films.
Make the most of each day that you go to class and see your friends. Enjoy every moment, cause it goes by too fast. Stay in the present, and always bring a positive attitude with you. You never know who you'll make smile, and you never know who's day you'll change for the better. Lastly, it's okay to not know where you're going, sometimes the answers were looking for will come out of the unknown.
How do I choose? It is a tie among favorite professors, in-depth psychology courses, math courses toward my minor, SCSU Choir, and many new friends.
I will miss the professors most of all. Without their care as much as their expertise, I never would have gotten this far. I am most looking forward to my graduate program: Clinical Mental Health Counseling at SCSU and eventually earning my master's and license to practice.

Growth happens when you slowly expand your comfort zone over time, so become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Some of my most cherished memories wouldn't have happened if I wasn't willing to put myself out there and try something new.

My favorite part here at SCSU was being able to communicate through music with many others and capture photos for the athletics department. I’ve met so many people from the Music Department to the Athletics Department. In music I played in the BlueSteel Drumline, Universal Band, Latin Jazz, and Blues. Then I became the athletic photographer, which was also amazing because I was able to show the school what I’m capable of. By doing that, I was able gain a bigger audience in sports towards my business. Everyone calls me Hq, which stands for “High Quality” but check out my work. Instagram: @Hqvisualss Website: Hqvisualss.com

Prioritize your time management skills and make a schedule that allows for both studying and self-care. It's also important to stay organized and to take advantage of the resources available on campus, such as tutoring/extra help and office hours with professors. My advice to you is to embrace every opportunity that comes your way, whether it's joining a new club, taking a class outside of your major, or simply striking up a conversation with someone you don't know. It's through these experiences that you'll not only discover your passions and interests, but also develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in life beyond college. Cherish the friendships you'll make, look to your Southern community and seek out help when you need it and don't be afraid to take risks and make mistakes. Most importantly, remember that college is a journey, not just a destination, so enjoy every moment of it.
Going to the Fovio Foreign Concert
My favorite part about my time at SCSU has to be connecting with fellow peers on campus. I felt most welcomed, included and deserving to be at Southern when I immersed myself into the Multicultural Clubs on campus. I’ve been apart of the Caribbean Student Association since my freshman year, and I have absolutely loved my experience. I even took on the Dance Coordinator position through this loving club for about two years. I also enjoyed participating in F.A.C.E. This organization aided in growing my confidence within and feeling my best about myself by putting myself out there. Thank you to everyone I’ve met through these organizations!
I am going to miss my CSA family most. Although I have spent less and less time here on campus, I never cease to continue to remain connected to the organization that made me feel at home. I will forever cherish the memories, laughs, events, bonds, and culture I’ve gotten to experience. A big thank you to the Caribbean Student Association for being my rock here at SCSU. I am looking forward to pursuing my dream of being an amazing, devoted and inspired elementary educator. I hope that I am able to give back to inner city schools and help grow the young minds of our communities. I’m also looking forward to continuing my own self growth and experiencing all that life has to offer me.
I advise all incoming students to get connected onto campus. Starting out at a new location can be nerve wracking and you can feel very out of place, but I promise you that SCSU has an organization just waiting for you to lead yourself in. There are opportunities to connect with likeminded individuals all throughout campus with Southern’s many student focused events, various organizations, and staff that are standing by for any student that may need assistance. SCSU will be a brand new start, but sooner or later, it will feel like home.

Apply yourself, put yourself out there and meet people. 10,000 people go to this school, you’re only doing yourself a disservice by going all four years without getting out there and getting to know some of them.
This university is so underrated, it deserves a lot more attention. The education is near the top in quality, and more people should know about it.
I am going to miss nothing, honestly. My main objective coming here was to get a degree and move on. I did enjoy my experiences in the classrooms but did not do much outside of them. I am excited to be presented the opportunities for jobs in the very near future that otherwise would not be options without a college degree.
Don't take your time here for granted. If you thought high school went by fast, wait until you become a college student. It somehow goes by even faster. Do your work on time but don't rush it. Attend your classes. Make some friends while you're at it. Do what you are supposed to do, but never take anything you do here for granted. Your time here is limited, so make the most of it.

Shout out to my Southern News buddies: Sofia Rositani and Jaylen Carr! I also cannot forget being Editor-in-Chief of Crescent magazine. As stressful as it was at times, it truly gave me experience outside of the classroom that I needed to be a true magazine editor.
