Just be you and enjoy the ride.
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was getting to join Club Volleyball; I have built so many wonderful friendships and I have created so many memories that I will never forget. As an athlete, I am happy with the outcomes in the areas I have improved in! I also enjoyed attending on campus events and activities with other owls and getting to be part of the community more!
I will miss receiving goodies from on campus events and activities as well as connecting with friends! I will also miss the wonderful support and connections from peers, friends, staff, professors! I look forward to closing this chapter as I open the next chapter in my life!
Make friends! I love SCSU because it is so diverse, don't ever think that you don't fit in or can't make friends! We're all one big family! Attend as many campus events and activities to help you gain better insight about career opportunities and build strong connections! Live life to its fullest during these 4 years or however long it might take, they sure do fly by fast!
Freshman and Sophomore year in Chase Hall, meeting all my friends and participating in all the activities, ballroom parties, and competitions.
Something that worked for someone else, might not work for you, but listen and learn as you go. Go to class and turn in things on time.
My 2 years in Jumpstart where I met some of the most compassionate, hard working people. No matter what I was going through, I always knew I'd feel better when I was with you guys and our sweet little preschoolers. Thank you Jumpstart for helping me find joy and confidence in myself as a teacher.
Join at least one club or organization. Take it one day at a time. Be kind to yourself.
When you think you’ve had enough push yourself harder. You’re becoming a new version of yourself.
SCSU honestly became my home. For the first time in my whole college career, I felt that I had somewhere I belonged. I was able to join clubs, build friendships, and really discover who I am as a person
I am going to miss the atmosphere of SCSU. The environment truly help mold me into the person I am today.
To incoming first-year transfer students. SCSU is honestly a place that would help you grow and be great. Get involved, join as many clubs, and learn how to love and be yourself!
The thing I treasure most from my time at SCSU is meeting and getting to know my best friend, Angela Corsino. We've had 4 great years of laughing and crying and growing up together.
Something I will miss from Southern is the safety I felt here as a member of the queer community. The warmth of the community helped me feel comfortable enough to find out who I am. The thing I look forward to the most is the impact I will be able to have as a special education teacher. I will get to use what I've learned at Southern to create a safe space others to learn and grow in!
Take advantage of your resources and do your best!
Being behind the scenes and on stage for every theatre production
Im going to miss the people that I met here. I wish I took more advantage of the time because it all really went by fast
Join everything you can. Try it all. Go to those events. Make those connections.

Joining Delta Phi Epsilon sorority and making strong bonds that will endure beyond college! 💜💛🦄
I’m going to miss seeing my friends every day, having study dates in Buley and Stu, and overall, the vibrant campus community. I am looking forward to starting my master’s while providing support to teens with mental health issues as a live-in teacher-counselor at a therapeutic boarding school!
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get involved! You never know where it can take you. Getting involved will help you grow personally and professionally while giving you an overwhelming sense of community and support.
Reflecting on my time at SCSU, I'd say my favorite part was the sense of community and camaraderie that premeated the campus. Whether it was collaborating on group projects, engaging in lively discussions with professors, or simply sharing laughs with friends in the student lounge, there was always a palpable feeling of support and belonging. These connections not only enriched my academic experience but also made my time at SCSU truly memorable.
As I prepare to bid farewell to SCSU, there's no doubt that what I'll miss the most is the sense of community that premeated every corner of the campus. From the bustling halls to quiet study nooks, there was always a feeling of belonging that made SCSU feel like home. Specifically, I'll miss the camaraderie and meaningful connections fostered during my work-study at the Financial Aid Office, where I not only gained invaluable professional experience but also formed lasting relationships with colleagues and students alike. However, as I embark on the next chapter of my journey, I eagerly look forward to spending more quality time with my family members, who have been my unwavering support system throughout my academic endeavors. I can't wait to dive into my career, applying the skills and knowledge I've gained at SCSU.
As you embark on your journey at SCSU, my advice to incoming students is to embrace every opportunity with an open mind and a willingness to learn and grow. Take advantage of all that the university has to offer - from engaging in class discussions and seeking guidance from professors to participating in extracurricular activities and forming connections with your peers. Remember that challenges are opportunities in disguise, so don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and push yourself beyond your limits. And most importantly, cherish every moment, for your time at SCSU will pass by in the blink of an eye. Soak in the experiences, make lasting memories, and always believe in yourself. You're capable of achieving great things, and SCSU is here to support you every step of the way. Welcome to the Owl family!
Spending countless hours in Buley with friends, enjoying the quad entertainment and going to sports games!
I will miss all of the people I met along the way and the outstanding staff that personally helped me through the finish line.
It will be difficult but it will be worth it. It’s never too late to change your mind, passions can change!
The understanding professors and the friends I was able to make during my classes and labs!
I'm going to miss the lab work with my favorite professors and the people I basically grew with in these classes
Never give up, even if you fail or don't get the grade you want! If you keep pushing forward you'll see the breakthrough in the end!
Learning, growth and social connections that I’ve made.
I’m going to miss being the manager for the men’s basketball team because it was an amazing experience. I have met many people, learned new knowledge, and traveled to different places I never imagined of going. I am looking forward to sharing and passing the knowledge that I’ve learned while giving back.
Work hard and get involved. By trying new things you can broaden your experience by learning new things about yourself and the world.
I don’t really have a specific event or time that was my favorite during my 3 years at southern, but I will say that everytime I had the opportunity to learn something new and actually retain knowledge... those moments will stick with me forever.
Out of everything I will probably miss the very few teachers who have been kind to me and also sooooo patient. I’m looking forward to see what is next for me but I have a feeling that wherever I end up I’m going to make change in this world!
My advice to the new students would be STAY FOCUSED, starting day 1. Don’t wait until you fail a class or get a bad grade to decide that it’s time to start dedicating yourself. Stay on your P’s and Q’s from day one and trust me it will pay off in the end.
My favorite times at SCSU was hanging out in the courtyards of the dorm rooms on nice spring days with everyone outside.
I’m going to miss the environment of SCSU and all of the friends I’ve made over my time here. I look forward to starting a new chapter in my life with my career and continue connecting with new people.
My advice to incoming students is to stay focused on your goals. Learn how to maintain good grades and enjoy your time at SCSU as it will fly by.
Singing in the choir with Dr. Gemme
As much as I won’t miss the assignments, I will miss having an active social life… I’m looking forward to starting to my career.
Make the most of your time @ SCSU.
Meeting my best friends here!
I am going to miss living on campus the most. Being a part of the community has really made my time at Southern special.
Get involved!! Make sure you go to events and join things that interest you on campus. As a freshman, I found it hard to talk to new people. After becoming an RA and working on campus, I have met lifelong friends here at Southern and that wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t put myself out there!
My favorite part of my time was meeting my best friend Geordie! We've grown so much together and I couldn't have done it without him!
I'll miss my club, Public Health Society. I'll miss those fun times we had. I'm looking forward to starting my career and starting this brand new chapter of my life.
Take all the opportunities you can! Don't let your shell keep you from getting experiences that can really help you in the future.
Here is my advice. Do not let a letter grade determine what you can or cannot do. Just because you cannot achieve mastery in a class within 15 weeks doesn't mean you're not good at it. Everyone learns at a different pace, you just need to find what works for you. Get involved on campus as early as possible. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to start getting involved, and then you may have regrets in the end. Meet as many people as possible.
I am going to miss being a student nurse but I am looking forward to working 3 days a week and having the rest of the time off.
If I could do it so can you!
Loved the people and friends I made along the way.
I will miss being in an environment full of people around my age, but I am definitely looking forward to being paid for my efforts.
Don't leave with any regrets, Its the time to be bold and learn about yourself as well as what you want your future to be.
Working as a RA in Wilkinson hall

Get to know your teachers. You’ll find they care a lot about you.
Wow, the highlight of my time at SCSU has been the incredibly warm, nurturing, and friendly atmosphere they've fostered for students. From the dedicated faculty to the vibrant on-campus events, I've experienced nothing but joy, compassion, and support. Thank you, SCSU!
The connections I've forged with faculty and staff, who've tirelessly guided me towards the right path, will be dearly missed. Yet, with a heart full of gratitude and excitement, I look forward to embarking on the journey to my next higher degree!
Persist in pursuing your goals, while also nurturing yourself in a loving, positive, and supportive environment. Also, shine bright. This is your moment to show the world who you are. ⭐😊
Becoming a part of greek life (TKE), participating in club sports (Mens Lacrosse and Mens Rugby) , getting to travel with the mens lacrosse team to North Carolina and Philly. I thoroughly enjoyed my time serving as a peer mentor along with friends.
Going to miss all the relationships I have built both with friends, but also with staff and faculty.
Enjoy your time and get involved. Getting involved just with the on campus events and game nights will help you feel more connected with the university. College is the perfect time to try new things and break out of your comfort zone.
The campus activities and events!
I am going to miss being a full-time college student. However, I am looking forward to getting a job and furthering my knowledge in the field of Communication Disorders.
Work hard, but also make time for fun. Four years flies by faster than you think.
I love Jules and Brody! But also I do enjoy how whenever there are major campus events, SCSU always shows up and has a good time! Food and activities are usually the best on those days! Best of all, I really loved the one time offer of self-defense training that was ran by a few officers of Southern’s police. The Mayor is hilarious!
I’m really going to miss CASAS resources, they really have some of best resources when it comes to having an Academic Success Coach and Writing Tutors. I like how it’s multiple resource under the same umbrella that, which I didn’t really have in that way when I was in community college a few years back. I will use the tools they have taught me to use in all areas of my life. I look forward to look back at my achievements, and say “I’m so proud of myself that I got it done!”
1. My favorite advice I tell myself: Always remember who you are and be truthful to yourself to be at peace! 2. An advice that is constantly looked over: Drink water!! Eat breakfast and get sleep! You can’t fully be present if you don’t take care of yourself! 3. An advice a mentor: when making decisions, treat your your mind, heart and gut like traffic lights. If all green, go for it! If not, take caution! 4. A former advisor & professor once told me: Always show up! Never stop showing up! This means in class, assignments and office hours!! It all matters!
Walking through campus during the different seasons. It's beautiful.
I'm going to miss my CMD professors, they are all awesome, and the few classmates I met. They are awesome too. Also, being able to leave my daughter in the COMPASS childcare center while I took my classes. That gave me peace of mind.
Focus and work hard to achieve your goals. Don't forget to relax and have fun, when you have the chance.
Do not give up. Your time will come.
My favorite part of my time at SCSU is hands down the opportunity I had to study abroad in Tuscany Italy for a month in the summer. Not only did I make some incredible memories and learn a lot about photography but I got to fully embrace a new culture.
SCSU is truly a community. No matter what part of the university you find yourself in, it becoming a second family. I am going to miss most my second family at the Office of First Year Admissions. I am going to miss being one of the first interactions most student have with Southern. I am looking forward to beginning my career and being a positive impact on peoples’ lives as a nurse in the emergency department.
Go to as many events as you can because you never know what opportunities may come from them.
The late-night walks back to my room while listening to loud music. I've always felt safe doing so, and as a woman, I can't do that anywhere else.
I’m going to miss my friends, but I look forward to graduating with at least two of them.
Don’t be afraid of starting over.
My favorite part of my time at Southern was sitting in the remembrance garden when the weather was beautiful or just walking around campus.
I will miss all my professors who made my college learning experience very enjoyable and unforgettable. I learned so much about myself and the world around us. I am looking forward to using what I have learned and applying it to my future career!
Step out of your comfort zone and get involved in all that Southern offers! There are so many opportunities and great people that you will meet along the way. Remember always to be YOU! Welcome to the Owl Family!!
Making friends within my major.
I am looking forward to ending this chapter of my life and beginning another chapter in my life to bigger and better things.
College is going to make you feel you cannot do this, but you got this. You are your biggest cheerleader. The bumps in the road do not determine your success as a student.
Reteaching material to a bunch of teachers not even 20 minutes before Professor Madu’s final. Love you Madu
I’m gonna miss my besties that I made along the way. I genuinely wouldn’t be here without you.
Don’t waste time
Reflecting on my journey at Southern, my favorite memories reside in the chapters of my junior and senior years (2022-2024). These pivotal years marked a profound period of self-discovery and growth. Immersing myself in campus life, from serving on executive boards to embracing academic challenges, I found a profound sense of purpose and identity. Despite facing unique obstacles outside of school, I found solace in the unwavering support from the Southern community especially the Caribbean Student Association. It was during these defining moments that I realized Southern wasn't just a university; it was my sanctuary, my catalyst for personal and academic transformation. With gratitude, I acknowledge that my decision to pursue my bachelor's here was definitely the right choice.
Gone are the days of snagging complimentary t-shirts, free food, and snacks.. a subtle reminder of the inevitable rise in inflation. Yet, amidst this transition, I find myself eagerly anticipating the unknown adventures that lie ahead. While I can't predict the specifics of my future path, one thing is certain: Southern will forever hold a place of pride for having nurtured and shaped me during my academic journey.
Don't be afraid to get involved! Joining a club can be an essential tool in finding your community on campus and keeping you focused on getting good grades while having fun.
Having the opportunity to be on the Track & Field and Cross Country team at Southern and meeting the people who have become my closest friends and biggest support system throughout my academic and athletic endeavors.
I am going to miss my teammates and coaches the most, but I am looking forward to using everything I have learned and my experiences from Southern to make a difference in the world.
Time flies. Take advantage of every opportunity and do things that you will look back on and think, "I'm happy I did that"
Talking to different people, attending workshops, and, of course, being in the costume shop at the Lyman Center.
The people that I am connected to and the support and guidance that I have received from classmates, friends, and professors have made me feel like I am not alone.
Always be yourself and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Make sure you advocate for yourself. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance if you are experiencing difficulty in class, and you are going to enjoy your time here.
Being in Delta Phi Epsilon, and getting my little Caroline. Making memories with my sisters.
I am going to miss all my sisters and all the fun we had together. I am looking forward to being to help others.
My advice is to get involved. Join clubs, rush, go to events. College is hard work as well, so stay at the library, book study rooms and look into services on campus to help you out. Such as VPAS, wellbeing, and casas!
Meeting new friends and networking.
I'll miss the routine of commuting to Southern Connecticut State University and the sense of academic belonging it provided. However, I'm eager to advance in my career and achieve goals I once thought were out of reach.
To incoming students: Remember to stay focused on your goals, even when faced with challenges. Taking breaks is crucial, but always keep in mind that nothing worthwhile in life comes easily. Organization and time management are key to success in your academic journey. And don't forget to prioritize time for friends and family – they're an essential part of your support system.
Joining Delta Phi Epsilon in the Fall of 2020, getting my big and my little, and exploring places all around New Haven with my friends.
I am going to miss campus and running into my friends at Stu’s or the library! I am going to miss spring on campus, and sunset walks to my dorm. I’m most looking forward to starting my journey as a BCBA and entering graduate school!
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and try new things, and if you are try it anyway!
Don't be afraid to ask questions and seek out help.
I'd say the highlight of my time at SCSU was transitioning from my previous degree and transferring to Southern. Moving into the dorms and experiencing the unique campus setting for the first time truly made my experience unforgettable. As well as all the new experiences and clubs I could join right at the tip of my fingers.
What I'll miss the most is the comforting rhythm of my school schedule, a routine that has been ingrained in me for nearly two decades. While stepping away from this familiar structure may initially seem daunting, I'm eager to embrace the freedom and flexibility that lie ahead. No longer bound by the constraints of deadlines and demanding assignments, I look forward to a future where the weight of looming 8-14 page papers is replaced with my knowledge of what I learned for my major.
To incoming students, especially those navigating college as first-generation students like myself, my advice is simple yet profound: embrace the support systems around you and never hesitate to reach out for guidance when uncertainty arises. Transitioning to college can feel overwhelming, especially when you're navigating it alone, but know that you're not alone in this journey. Take advantage of the resources and support services offered by your university, whether it's the First Generation Office or various student organizations. Personally, immersing myself in the vibrant community at Southern, particularly through involvement in organizations like the Residence Hall Association (RHA), proved to be transformative. It not only provided a sense of belonging but also invaluable support from peers and mentors who were eager to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Remember, there's always someone willing to assist you in whatever challenges you may encounter. So, don't hesitate to step out of your comfort zone, get involved, and make the most of your time at Southern. It's these connections and experiences that will truly enrich your college journey and pave the way for your success.

Some of my favorites times at SCSU were hanging out in the patio in front of Buley with my friends and enjoying the warm weather during spring semesters. I also really enjoyed going to football, soccer, and lacrosse games with friends and enjoying a little school rivalry when we played UNH.

Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone! Before I got to SCSU, I had no idea how many amazing organizations there were on campus and how much they could prepare you for the future. I met my best friends, did amazing things, and learned so much through those organizations. I would also say try to go to every event you can and see what’s out there for you.
All my time here at SCSU is my favorite. Winning Ms. Heritage 23, getting to be SISTAS President, being a FACE model, making content for the SCSU Instagram and TikTok, going to Culture Fest, Homecoming, EVERYTHING!
My advice is, DON'T STAY IN YOUR ROOM! Go outside, join a club, go to an event, and make new friends. Southern is so much because there's always something to do. Just go out and find it, because if you don't you will regret not making any memories.
I am going to miss living on campus and being able to see my friends everyday!
No matter how difficult or overwhelming it may seem, you always get it done. Take one thing at a time and never be afraid to ask your professors for help. They are here to guide us and help us through this. Don’t forget to have fun and balance school life, work life, and personal life. Make some memories! You got this! Good luck and have fun!
Playing pool almost everyday in the pool room at Stu with all my friends and meeting new friends throughout the years at SCSU.
I’m going to miss seeing my friends all of the time at school. I’m looking forward to continuing my schooling at SCSU in the Master of Social Work Program.
Definitely have good time management skills and manage it wisely. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things! Have fun but don’t slack off!
Even in an online setting, my favorite part of my time at SCSU was the strong sense of community among my fellow online learners and instructors. Despite being physically apart, I still felt connected through our shared dedication to learning and mutual support. The flexibility of online classes allowed me to balance my studies with my other responsibilities, making the learning experience both convenient and rewarding.
As a mother of four, I'll cherish the sense of accomplishment that comes with balancing my studies alongside my responsibilities at home. While I'll miss the camaraderie of classmates and the guidance of professors, I'm excited to apply the knowledge and skills I've gained to enriching my family's life and contributing to my community. The journey ahead is filled with endless possibilities, and I'm eager to embrace every moment of it.
Embrace every opportunity to learn, grow, and connect. Stay curious, be open to new experiences, and don't be afraid to ask for help when needed. Remember that challenges are opportunities in disguise, and perseverance is key. Most importantly, cherish the journey and the people you meet along the way. Your time as a student is precious, so make the most of it!
I'll treasure the moments when I couldn't find a sitter and had to bring my daughter to class with me.
I'll miss my study buddies and look forward to getting much needed rest!
Don't lose focus and keep your eyes on the prize!
No matter how hard it gets don't QUIT or GIVE UP. I promise in the end, ITS WORTH IT!!!!
I am going to miss meeting with the very patient and compassionate professors and advisors one on one
I have loved meeting new people and learning more about myself. That education has taught me so many valuable lessons that I do not think I could have learned anywhere else.
I am going to miss the people. There are not a lot of people like the ones at SCSU. Everyone has been so kind and the world is not like that. I am looking forward to starting my career in the law and furthering my education in the future.
Do not be too hard on yourself. You are going to fail and make mistakes. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and you will be ok!
Working at the student center and taking classes with friends to make the class more memorable.
I'm going to miss seeing my friends every day without planning it and living a responsibility-free life.
My freshman year someone told me the 4 years are going to fly by and I laughed and said I hope so. But it actually flew by, so make sure to make the fullest of each day.
Visiting the UAP office!
I’m going to miss all of my lovely professors which I have grown a bond with! However, I am looking forward to starting this new chapter in my life!
Never be afraid to ask for HELP! The campus has so many resources that are there for that exact purpose!
Getting to meet various students and faculty that have made a profound impact on my education as well as my life.
I am going to miss the little things such as heading to class on a nice spring evening, or getting lost because our class is in a basement. I look forward to applying what I have learned at Southern and making an impact on students' just like how some professors made an impact on me.
Keep your head up. There are going to be days where you doubt yourself. Do not let your doubts take over your every day life, get up, get moving, clean, go for a walk, etc., but do not let it manifest to the point where you quit all your dreams. Also, if you are lost, absolutely ask for help, the Southern community will help you out! Enjoy your time here, it goes by quick, tomorrow you will look back and realize that in a few weeks you are going to be graduating, take it slow and enjoy your time at Southern.
My biggest piece of advice would be to manage your time well when organizing your assignments and being able to complete them before the deadline. Don’t stress yourself out more than you need to be!
Working on my undergraduate thesis paper on the Great Ship of New Haven Connecticut from the 17th century. I also wrote about the alleged phantom vision of the ship over the New Haven harbor in the summer of 1647. I also enjoyed studying in Buley Library.
I look forward to continuing my education at Central Connecticut State University I plain on earning my masters in public history at Central. I will miss the history and political science professors.
Being with my friends I met through Peer Mentoring and working in Wintergreen.
I will probably miss peer mentoring the most. I am looking forward to starting the grad program at Southern next fall.
Use your resources such as classmates, CASAS, professors, peer mentors, etc. and advocate for yourself and collaborate with others. You may end up graduating a year early like myself. Remember that everyone is starting off at the same place as you are going into college and probably have the same fears so try to be the one to go up to them and you'll meet life long friends.
Group study sessions, meaningful conversations in and out of the classroom, wonderful people to learn and grow alongside of.
Forever a student of the world. Stay curious and be brave.
“If you are not in the arena getting your ass kicked on occasion, I’m not interested in or open to your feedback. There are a million cheap seats in the world today filled with people who will never be brave with their lives but who will spend every ounce of energy they have hurling advice and judgment at those who dare greatly. Their only contributions are criticism, cynicism, and fearmongering. If you’re criticizing from a place where you’re not also putting yourself on the line, I’m not interested in what you have to say.” -Brené Brown, Dare to Lead: Brave Work.
Hanging out with friends at Stu and playing pool.
I'm going to miss college as a whole. There isn't one thing that I will miss the most. As for the future, I am looking forward to making new relationships and using what I've learned here at SCSU out in the real world.
Have confidence in yourself. You are here for a reason and have worked hard to get here. So have faith in your capabilities but also listen and learn.
