For incoming students I would like to say continue working hard and stay focused. Your time will come. Strive to be the best person you can be!
My best time is when I get to work on campus to help my fellow students. Working as Help Desk and peer mentor have been a great contribution. The happiness it gave after successfully helping someone is an enjoyable emotion.
I can't believe I am going to say this, but I will miss studying and worrying about it. Sitting in class and talking to professor on a daily basis. It wasn't as bad as it may seem as we reach the end now.
It may seem dark, and the end is far Can't seem to grasp the light Can't seem to end the night Tired of running with an empty sight Shall stay and watch the stars Pour a part of that glutted heart Don't stop the dream, keep the hope Stand again, and continue the road Even when the heart on the edge of falling Don't lose your way, keep on holding

AVOID THE PIZZA IN STU - GO TO CONN HALL INSTEAD No Really.... Pay close attention to your degree program, advisors are people just like you and I, most are underpaid and over-worked so they can make a lot of mistakes. You don't have to use the advisor you are assigned, if you're unhappy ask around, word of mouth is best for selecting academic advisement
Every day at the veterans office.
The people.
People make your time here matter. Make friends, meet new people and learn about yourself as you grow intellectually.

Meeting friends that will last me a lifetime, and the incredible views on campus.
I’m going to miss trying to find my way around campus and getting to see the friends that I’ve made along the way as often as I did. Time went by super quickly, and I didn’t get to explore as much as I would’ve liked to, but I’m really looking forward to starting this next chapter of life!
Some advice I would give to incoming students would be to plan out your week as much as possible. The more you plan out your schedule the easier it’ll be in the long run, because everything you need to do will be right there in front of you. Keep your loved ones/friends close, but make sure to get your work done so that you have the time to enjoy life, too. :-)

I would tell them make sure you ask question when you don’t know something. To students of color specifically don’t ever feel like you don’t belong, because I know imposter syndrome is real. You belong in these spaces and in these conversations.

The memories that stick out to me the most are of course my time at Southern News, Crescent magazine and the peer mentoring program. Shout the SNews NYC CMA Conference 2019! The social justice retreat in 2017. Amanda’s Declassified: Trauma Survival Guide radio show with Amanda Valentin was also an amazing memory.
I loved the accessibility to my friends, professors and advisers. These people bring inspiration and ambition into my life. The essence of Southern feels like home. Seeing so many people invested in academia brought out the best parts of me. I love studying at the library and hanging out in the student center.
Enjoy insignificant moments. Enjoy the accessibility to so many of your friends at the same location. Immerse yourself in knowledge. Join clubs that you’re interested in; everyone else is nervous, too! People want to be your friend. Value and invest in your mental health. Set boundaries with everyone. We have so many amazing people at Southern, I wish there was a way to know them all!
My advice is to find a group of people, an organization, or a club, that you like and get to know the people in it. I did that with SUMA Marketing and found some amazing people. Don't take people for granted, even your friends. Spend time with them, be present, and reflect frequently. Get involved with something you like on campus, something that you value. There are a lot of opportunities at Southern to grow as a leader and a global citizen if you take the initiative. Also, choose to be happy. Especially when things get tough, remember to take care of yourself first. Be always curious and be relentless in your fight for a better life, a better future. Remember two things: "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" - Steve Prefontaine, and "do not work so hard that you forget to live" - myself. Buena Suerte. Caio!

To incoming students, I would recommend getting involved as early as you can. Getting involved in various clubs and organizations that suit your interests is so important. You will be able to meet new people with similar interests and form bonds based on those interests. Don’t limit yourself to just one or two organizations. Join as many as you are interested in and can handle.

Looking forward to putting this degree to use and hopefully find a career I love!
Discipline yourself! Be your own motivation! It really does pay off in the end! Best of luck!
Do not be so hard on yourself and do not compare yourself to others. This is not their journey, it is YOURS!
My favorite part of my time at SCSU, was always during the beginning of a new semester where we had WOW events across campus, or Commuter Wednesday's and grabbing a coffee on the go to class. I also loved PB&J's Thursdays.

My favorite part of my time at SCSU has been meeting some of my best friends who I know are in it with me for the long haul. I also loved the opportunities I got to be able to give back and aid in relief from Hurricane Harvey as well as being able to travel to Italy with the universities Choir and sing in some of the most beautiful locations!
Something that I will miss most about Southern is the very obvious family and community. Walking out of class, the library, or Stu and seeing everyone enjoying themselves on the Buley Patio was something I looked forward to when it was warm outside. There was always someone you knew hanging out and somehow always music playing and we would all gather and enjoy ourselves, separately but together. What I am looking forward to most is all of the opportunities that I will get to put the knowledge that I gained at Southern to use, and know that I can be confident in my education.
My advice to incoming students is to let your time at Southern be a time where you find and become your true self. Southern is a very accepting and encouraging community of people who want to see you succeed. You have room to try new things and make mistakes but ultimately get to where you need to go. Being in an environment where I could thrive and know that I was getting the education I needed for a positive future moving forward.
Sitting in the library or STU with friends and doing absolutely nothing.

All of my favorite moments were created in the different organizations I joined where I met my people that helped Southern really feel like home.
I am most looking forward to sharing how much I loved my Southern experience!
Take advantage of every opportunity presented to you! The more involved you are on campus and in your major program, the more you will not only enjoy your time at Southern, but you will really be making the most of it! It’s intimidating to put yourself out there, but it is worth it and then some more!
My favorite time here at Southern has been making all of the connections that I did with other students and staff! The Southern community is so special and I honestly cherish all of the people I have been able to work with or become friends with.
I am going to miss being in a challenging learning environment. I respect the academic process maintained by professors here at Southern. Every single professor I have had has taught me something important about how the world works or exposed me to a new way of thinking critically. I feel prepared for my profession so I am looking forward to continuing learning and developing skills that I have acquired at Southern.
Do not take college for granted. Do your work, get involved on campus, strive for success. Be kind to yourself and others while you are here. Think about why college is important for you whether that is to enter a profession or for personal growth, both are valid. Remember that you are responsible for your learning in college. Value this time as a transition from adolescence to adulthood and use it wisely. Have fun and work hard!

My favorite part of SCSU was definitely SCSU TV. From the first club meeting, I felt instantly at home. It was always my go-to place whenever I wanted to hang out or just go somewhere to do work. I've made great friends there and in the Film & TV department. If not the TV Station then the DPF. It was always a good time talking for hours about films and TV shows with the students and professors.
I'm going to miss talking about movies and hanging out with friends from SCSU TV and the DPF. I'm going to miss creating content and filming with those same friends. I'll miss those late nights editing in the edit suites and shooting films. The late night editing sessions in the TV Office and doing movie podcasts with friends. I'm looking forward to staying connected with the friends I've made and seeing where the future takes them. I'm really looking forward to working in production, hopefully in ESPN.
Get involved as much as you can in clubs and organizations. Use all the resources you have at your disposal. If you're a film major, definitely get involved as much as you can in SCSU TV and learn as much as you can.

Embrace this experience and everything that comes with it. You get more out of these four years than just a diploma.
I will fondly remember serving as a Presidential Student Ambassador at SCSU. It was an honor for me to represent our great institution at important social functions hosted by President Joe.
I will truly miss walking through the hallways and hearing my honorary adopted SCSU grandchildren, yelling, "Hi Jetta, what did you cook? or Hootie Hoo!" I enjoyed each and every classroom lecture and discussion. Regardless, of the fact, I am a grandmother, the students always said, I was the coolest grandmother and Auntie around! I'm looking forward to taking all my experiences and work ethics into the community and making a great impact in helping others reach their goals.

Being able to study abroad!
My favorite times at SCSU were when I worked on productions with the SCSU Theatre Department. Doing shows is a hands-on learning experience no matter what your position is and I learned so much every time I worked on a show.
I am going to miss all of the amazing people I've met at Southern. I will, of course, stay in touch with my friends regularly. However, I will miss seeing everyone every day.
Don't be afraid to put your foot in at the very beginning. I almost didn't audition for my first show at SCSU (The Boy Friend '16) because it was on the first day of classes. I don't know where I would be today if I hadn't just gone for it. Because of that experience, so many doors have opened for me during my time at college such being Secretary for the Crescent Players for three years.
My favorite time at SCSU was being a Resident Advisor and making amazing connections, new friends, and just being able to be part of a new class' freshman experience.
I'm going to miss being able to walk a few minutes and see my Southern family but I am looking forward to educating classes of my own and making a difference in the education world.
You can sleep when you're dead, make those memories and take those chances as often as you can.

We have grown together, cried together, laughed together, and got to spend a memorable 4 years together! Some of my best and favorite memories are at SCSU! Always reach out to your professors no matter what is going on. Southern has the BEST professors!
I'm definitley going to miss living among all my friends and being on campus all the time. On the other hand, I'm looking forward to starting graduate school and getting my MSW!

Learning in the Science lab where I discovered my own phage.
I will miss all, classes, professors, discussions, and our campus guards who always watched after students at the entrance booth! I hope to come back on campus as a researcher.
Take every opportunity to learn from the best. Each course is an asset in becoming a better YOU!
Being a part of the music department. It’s a big family and I’ll take that with me for the rest of my life.
I’m really going to miss the music department, my teachers, my friends, the classes/ensembles. I look forward to showing off what I learned at future gigs and at Grad School for music Therapy.
My advice to incoming students would be: Really get to know downtown New Haven, she’s a cool place that will give you lots of great memories. Take your time and enjoy every drop, leave no stone unturned. Your college years go by pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it...
Let yourself explore. Let yourself question. You may have this straight and narrow path laid out that you've planned to follow from day one, but things change. The best way to grow is to accept the risk of failure and put your heart into your work.
The best parts of my time at southern was meeting my now very good friends , whom I’ve gotten to know and love over these past few years , as well as my classes and getting the opportunity to enjoy the learning experience.

Take every opportunity offered and get connected in the community.
Freshman year, every day my newly made friends and I would go about our days filled with class, but every single night we would meet back together for dinner, and we would sit as a family at Conn spending hours there. These newly made friends I describe are now my best friends for life.
I am going to miss living with my best friends every year. I look forward to each and every one of us flourishing in our own fields, having each other as connections, and a person to lean on (Despite the distance).

Go after the experience you want. Make your college experience different from your high school experience! You’re paying for an education & an experience.
There are too many wonderful moments to count. I lived on campus for three years and have made lifelong memories with my roommates. I thoroughly enjoyed working on my thesis with Dr. Kahlbaugh who was just a pleasure to work with. I also loved my job at the Dean's Office of Health and Human Services and treasure my time spent there immensely. Dean Bulmer and Alisa St. Georges and everyone else at that office are such kind and hardworking people, and I would not be where I am today without their influence.
Above all else, I will miss the people I met at Southern. My roommates Stephanie and Gabby are two lifelong friends I met while at Southern and I will miss them terribly after graduation. I will also miss my job in Health and Human Services and all of the people who work there. Luckily, my time at Southern is not finished, and I am so excited to come back in the fall as a graduate student pursuing a Masters in Speech Language Pathology.
I would like to tell incoming students to just take a moment during their first semester there to just breathe and take everything in. Coming to college is such an overwhelming and joyous new experience. Take some time to get to know the campus. Find your favorite corner of Buley, talk to that professor you think is brilliant, let this campus speak to you the way it spoke to me and let yourself feel at home here.
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was choosing to pursue Physical Education and meeting the best classmates and professors this University has to offer. I have met my lifelong friends in this department. Without this change in my major, I probably wouldn’t have been graduating at Southern today.
I’m going to miss Dunkin runs with my friends 5 mins before class started, hangouts at Stu for 3 hours straight doing nothing, finding free t-shirts at any chance we could get, cookies at Robertas at 10 p.m., The Bachelor and Grey’s nights with Jill Chambers and Anna Venard, and student teaching. I’m gonna miss seeing the people in my program every day who have been family to me, my best friends, my students, and my roommate Anna putting up with my shenanigans/craziness.
Choose a major that makes you happy and alive. There are going to be so many obstacles that you’ll face throughout your years. Do not let it discourage you, keep pushing!
Meeting more people from my home town with similar music interests after only keeping a friend that stayed around since elementary school. Being closer to my family to know they’re always in good health. The school had an accessible drumset that kept me drumming. Being able to build my dj experience at some parties.
Connection with teachers. What the future lies ahead for my fitness career and what other possibilities are coming my way.
YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR TEACHERS IS SO VALUABLE. You can avoid it all you want and go mess around and live your true college life, but don’t come crying back to the ones that mattered because you thought you were better off doing “other things” to keep yourself satisfied. This goes for clubs as well and work opportunities. TRY TO FIND A BALANCE. If you can accomplish that, you’re gold.
Being on the gymnastics team because i came in with an immediate group of friends and it introduced me to so many people that are now so important to me
I’m going to miss the atmosphere of southern, but I’m most looking forward to not being broke anymore
Have fun, college flies by so go out when you’re tired, be a little crazy and most importantly be yourself. You will remember your college experience forever so make it worth remembering.
I'm going to miss the people the most, SCSU has amazing, accepting, and vibrant people and I will always miss having the SCSU community to spend every day in.
Ask someone a random question. Everyone you meet has something you can learn from even if it's that they think their car might be haunted by a mouse.
My favorite part of SCSU was the friends you meet along the way. The friendships I have made a Southern I certainly value long after my time at school is over. I was lucky to make life long friends while attending school and I cannot wait to see what they do in the future.
I am going to miss seeing all the warm and familiar faces around every corner. Whether or not if a friend, professor or faculty member. I always get so welcomed at Southern. It is truly a great community to be apart of.
Enjoy every moment you have while in school. These are truly some of the best experiences of your life. Eventually your time at Southern will end and I hope you are able to look back and see that it was all worth it. Always make time to study and socialize and make friends!!
Meeting all my friends and having great professors shaped me into who I am today.
I'm definitely going to miss all the time I spent in Buley with my friends.
Do not be afraid to try new things, step out of your comfort zone. Do not be afraid to ask for help. There are so many great resources on campus. Enjoy your time and take advantage of your time at Southern. It truly is a special place.
My favorite memories are of PRISM club meetings and Drag Ball, the PB&J sandwiches in Engleman Hall, as well as the studio and my art classes in Earl Hall. I'll miss hanging around Conn Hall and cramming for finals and going to study groups in the library.
I am going to miss my professors and classmates, and the overall energy our campus has. I am looking forward to bringing that spirit everywhere I can.
If you're a commuter, LEAVE A HALF HOUR TO AN HOUR EARLIER, you will NOT find parking if you're late to get to class! But really, stay curious and don't be afraid to be who you are on campus. Join clubs, talk to people passing by and reach out to others! There is always a place for you here, even if it doesn't feel like it at first. You're going to have the time of your life here, and you'll look back and realize how fast it's gone, so take it all in moment by moment!

Four years of college seems like a long time, but it really does fly by. Make the most of it!
The wonderful staff that I met. Especially Dr. Maria Diamantis.
I am looking forward to acceptance into the MAT program at SCSU.
Success is not determined by how long it takes, but as long it takes! As a single mother of 3 children at the time my journey took off in August 2012. 8 years later I finally feel accomplished, but this is not the end of my venture. No matter the hurdles, challenges, or trials, never give up on your success.
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was all the late night adventures with my friends. Whether we were going for a drive, going to get food, or going out, there was nothing better than being with them.
I am going to miss having a big family. Residence life gave me coworkers and residents who I connected with and loved being around every day. I always knew that if I wanted to see a happy face, I could just walk down to the lobby. Hopefully I can find another family within my Sacred Heart Program!
Do not wait. Do not wait to have fun, do not wait until the weekend, until the class is over, until the semester is over. If you wait, it will be over and you will be wishing you did more. Find a balance and find a way to have fun in the present. If you push it off until things get easier, you will never get to do everything you want. Life is happening now, so have fun now (and still take care of your grades).
Making friends
Going to miss seeing my friends everyday. I’m looking forward to being an adult
Stay on top of your work😂
I really enjoyed the overall environment and atmosphere. I felt that SCSU has a huge variety of student groups and activities available for students. There’s always something for everyone!
I am going to miss how welcoming the community is to everyone that is willing to participate and be open. There are events going on almost every night, such as guest speakers, movie showings, intramural sports and entertainment nights, such as ping pong/video game tournaments and more. There is probably a club or group for everyone, and if not, there are plenty of resources to make one for others to join!
My advice to incoming students is, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Whether you’re struggling for class, can’t make friends, or you don’t know how you’re going to pay your next semester. Asking for help is a sign of strength, maturity and confidence, not a sign of weakness.
My favorite time at SCSU was when I met my best friends Matt, Annie, Tori, and Autumn in one of my classes for my major! They're the best friends that anyone could ever ask for!!

Onto the next school!
Always follow your dreams and never give up. Always have faith in yourself. When times get tough, always try and focus on all of the positives that life has to offer.
Wednesday meetings with my Brothers, being an RA in West, Homecoming, and sunny days on Buley patio.
Enjoy every moment and get out of your comfort zone.

Nothing, I live down the block. There is nothing for me to miss.

The academic and social events that would bring all students and faculty together anywhere on campus.

Take your academics seriously and know there is always help if you are willing to take it.

Get involved! You will not regret it. You get to meet so many new people and that can bring forth a lot of networking opportunities for yourself in the future. Also, make sure you balance out your academic and social life. School is very important, however there’s nothing wrong with having fun with some friends every once in a while! Make your time at SCSU worth it!

I will miss being around my friends all the time. Those are moments you take for granted. Whether it be nights at the dining hall, or early morning wake-ups for class, I wish I could relive every moment with my roommates and friends.
College is what you make it. It’s going to be a tough transition, when it seems like everyone has it all together. It may take time, but you will find your people, you’ll find your passion.
My favorite part of my time here at SCSU was all of the time I was able to spend in the science labs both with my classes and my research study. All of my lab time helped me decide what I wanted to do once I graduated!
I'm going to miss seeing my friends every day the most. We all became very close over the past four years and I will forever be grateful for the friendships made. What I am looking forward to the most is being done with school, at least for now, and finally being able to work in my field.
My advice to incoming students is don't be afraid to speak up if you're having trouble with something or need help in any way. The faculty and staff at SCSU really do want you to succeed and they are there to help so take advantage of it. The people I have made connections and the lasting relationships with students and faculty/staff alike. I also had an amazing time on my short semester abroad in Iceland in 2018! Not to mention, the experience of going to a new place and learning new things about Iceland, was such a wonderful and rewarding experience!

I am going to miss the feeling of walking around campus and seeing so many familiar faces the most. I will miss the amount of opportunity the university gave me, but definitely will be looking forward to the next chapter of my life.
My advice to incoming students would be to live everyday as if it were your last. Study hard, but make sure to have fun while doing it. Your time is limited here so do all you can to make the absolute best out of it. Work never ends; college does. As the class of 2020 has learned painfully, never take what you have for granted and take in every moment as if it were your last.
My advice to incoming students is to go to class and do your homework first, then party all you want!
My favorite time at Southern Connecticut State University was the road trips with the hockey team to Columbus, Ohio for nationals. Your faculty and department want to see you succeed so please reach out to them when things are tough. They understand that work-life, school-life, and home-life do not take turns. They are willing to work with you on a deadline, an assignment, or a test date. They are always willing to listen when you need to be understood.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK, ON TIME!
I want to thank everyone that I met along my journey at Southern. Without friends and facility I will not be where I am today! Thank you Southern for providing me with the best four years of my life! I am proud and will always be proud to call myself an owl.

Get involved on campus, time management is key, and enjoy it while it lasts!
My favorite part has definitely been my time with SCSU TV. It really boosts me up my freshman year and I made a ton of friends through the club. I’m one of the few people who gets to say they enjoyed their job. It’s an experience I’ll never forget. I made some lifelong friendships there. I also liked seeing my different Communication professors.
There’s so much I’ll miss. I’m going to miss walking into the TV office everyday and seeing my friends. I’m going to miss all of the great conversations that we had. I’m also going to miss seeing my classmates sitting outside in the spring time. I’m really going to miss SCUFF. I’m looking forward to a bunch of things, mainly seeing where all of my classmates go in life.
Get involved! Join SCSU TV, we’re always looking for members to join. It’s a great club and you’ll meet a lot of people through. Try to chunk out your assignments and plan ahead. Get an agenda, it’ll be your best friend. At times class will be overwhelming. Email your professor, they’re glad to help. Another piece of advice I just started recently is to write down something positive that happened to you each day. It’s a nice little reminder that not everything is bad. The most important one is to have fun!
My favorite part is when I was accepted into the nursing program.
I'm going to miss seeing all of my friends I've met here at Southern. I'm most looking forward to starting my nursing career.
Get involved in every opportunity at Southern! There are hundreds of organizations and groups you can be a part of :)
It’s worth it, just push through and finish!
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was being able to learn and grow as a programmer with the Computer Science Department. The CS Dept here is amazing and really dedicated to serving its students. I enjoyed each and every CSC class I ever attended - even the difficult ones - because they have all helped me develop into the person I am today.
The one thing I'll miss the most from is ProCon. I've attended so many amazing ProCon-sponsored trips and on-campus events with my best friend. They were all truly memorable and hold a special place in my heart. The one thing I'm looking forward to the most is starting my career at Yale ITS as an Application Developer. I had an amazing time during my internship there in 2019, and I am happy to begin my career and life with the Yale ITS team.
Always follow your dreams and never give up! Even when times are hard, classes are difficult, and you're feeling let down, always reach out for help and don't be afraid to fall down before getting back up. The journey is hard and difficult but 100% worth it.
Being a part of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority & meeting my forever friends.
I am going to miss seeing my fellow sisters, classmates and friends around campus. I will always remember and cherish all the good times. I look forward to helping improve the quality of lives with my degree.
Enjoy your time at SCSU & work hard it goes by quick.
My favorite time at SCSU was my first Week of Welcome experience during my freshman year. There were so many opportunities to get involved on campus socially and academically also a ton of great food and people to enjoy.
What I will miss most is the beauty of the campus, the fall leaves, blankets of snow, and bright flowers planted. I am looking forward to whatever the future has to offer me. I'm also going to miss my friends, professors, and of course the shuttle bus drivers who always got me to where I needed to go safely and with a smile.
My biggest word of advice to incoming freshmen is to always be yourself while being open to learning and explore more about who you are. I would also advise the incoming freshman to step out of your comfort zone because comfort can be limiting, when you are uncomfortable that's usually where the opportunity is.
Meeting new people.
College is a really good opportunity to get an education while having fun. College is the best place to do all of that. I’m looking forward to starting a new life and going into the real world.
Use your time wisely, assignments start to pile up.
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was the Spring Fair hosted by the Multicultural Center. It was great to see the gathering of all different cultures.
I am going to miss studying in the Buley Library and attending all the events hosted by Programs Council. I am looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities ahead of me.
Be yourself and live in the moment. It is important to stay on top of all your work but it is also necessary to make new friends and memories. These four (and sometime more) years are some of the best years of your life.
I am going to miss dorming with my girls, but I am so excited to see what the future has in store for us all.
Everywhere
Everything. my last walk in campus was very nostalgic.
Please don't drop out.
Having professors that care about my wellbeing, both in and out of the classroom.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Southern has a great community of students and staff that are happy to help with problems, whether they be school or life related.
Being a peer mentor and finding a family that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Working at the Academic Success Center and helping students finding the support they needed. Also sitting outside on the Buley patio on a warm day hanging with friends!
I will miss seeing my friends, bosses, mentors and professors everyday, as they were the people who made me love scsu. I am looking forward to starting my graduate program in counseling for higher education, and my internship at Eastern Connecticut State University. I am excited to share what I have learned at Southern in my new roles and one day hopefully work for a institution as wonderful as SCSU.
Never be afraid to take an opportunity, even if it is out of your comfort zone. This school will offer you the most amazing experiences, don’t be afraid to experience them. Push yourself to try new things and find what makes you happy and passionate in life.
Being a student leader, the family that I made through being a Peer Mentor, Success Navigator and Resident Advisor is the community that I have always wanted.
I am going to miss the community at Southern, no matter where I go on campus I feel welcome! I look forward to brining those positive vibes with me throughout life.
Enjoy your time here, grades are important but there is so much more to college. The opportunities at Southern are like non-other that you will find anywhere else. Use your resources, make friends, hang out a while! You will be a better person because of it! You got this!
Skipping class to be in the quad.
Matching my fellow delinquents.
Do that paper before you go out to that party ...
New West, Homecoming, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Greek Week, RCB, & Pine Rock.
Going to miss those emails from Patty D & the Chartwells staff. Looking forward to coming back to homecoming as an alumni.
Never take your time at SCSU for granted. Join every club or org. you've always wanted to. Don't be afraid to fail. Always check in with your family.
Meeting my Earl hall family. I would not be the same person I am today with out the staff and friends who helped me grow over several long years.
I’m going to miss the ceramics room and the energy that was always in it. I’m going to miss countless conversations I’ve had within the walls, the secrets kept between friends, the endless complaining about things that don’t matter and the laughs.
Good luck with southern. Running is still a possibility. If you stick it out it might be worth it, or the world could end. Who knows ?
I’m so thankful for transferring to SCSU because I was able to really find myself and explore things out of my comfort zone. I was able to meet my best friend and some other people that I’ve become really close to. Southern gave me many opportunities to be myself and try new things.
I’m going to miss hanging out in the Library Quad on a nice Sunday day with my friends. I love forward to finally becoming a teacher and having a classroom of my very own. I’ve been waiting so long for this moment, the closer I get the more excited I am about it.
Try everything and anything. The more you do, the more memories you’ll make and the more people you’ll meet.
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was the years I was active and leading in the Greek Life Community as a part of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity. I have learned so much about not conforming to the world around me. My time here taught me how to be confident in sharing my faith with others, and it gave me the motivation to continue working in the community and making this world a better place through the motto "Faciamus," meaning "We do."
I'm probably going to miss the sense of community and support from so many friends among different departments and organizations the most. In addition, I will miss having the support of a college community to help me figure out where I belong and where I can get support no matter the need. I look forward to my future as a missionary, practicing bold and unashamed faith as a part of Circuit Rider Experience! #CarryTheLove
The advice I give to incoming students is to find where you feel most accepted, but don't forget to go outside your comfort zone academically, socially, and spiritually. Challenging yourself in a safe place promotes growth, and through growth we create habits that produce a character that you'll carry for the rest of your life.
Spending my time at English Common Room.
I’m going to miss all of my friends and now I can’t wait to start another chapter of my life.
Don’t give up
Hanging out at the dorms with my best friends, family dinners together and wandering aimlessly around campus.
Living in such a fun environment
Take advantage of every opportunity you get, don’t let anything slip through your grasp. Be open to new ideas and be ready to change as a person. You will have the time of your life, enjoy it because it flies by!
Seeing Roberta every night! As well has making some of my best friends at southern.
I’m going to miss my studio art professors. They have helped me so much throughout my journey. I am looking forward to starting my next chapter of life.
Always be friendly, you never know who’s going to come in your life and make a big impact.
My favorite part about SCSU was enjoying time the spent with friends. I have been able to make great friends throughout my four years at Southern. Being in the Public Health program you were able to make close friends with the people in your class. We learned with each other and grew together. The time spent in class learning what I loved was my favorite part about my time at SCSU.
I am going to miss most the days spent in Buley studying with friends. The time spent at the student center meeting up with friends before class. The amazing professors that taught us and genuinely cared about us succeeding. The culture of Southern was something I was proud to be a part of and that culture is what I will miss most about SCSU.
My advice to incoming students is to attend class as much as you can. It can become a bad habit to skip class, you skip one and next thing you know you missed the whole week. Use the time spent in class to build relationships with your professors and classmates. You never know one day you may find yourself needing their help and with establishing yourself as a kind and hardworking person they may be more inclined to lend you a helping hand.
My favorite part was when I was in the piano instrument class.
Just to be themselves, give it their all, and enjoy each and every moment.
I enjoyed every moment of my time at SCSU! I loved all of the activities and the friends I made.
To incoming students : Make the best of college! It goes back fast! Have fun but focus on your studies!
Singing with NOTEorious and the amazing memories we made!
I am going to miss the feeling of my Owl family, the connection of music in us, singing with our Owl pride. I look forward to future shows, watching them grow!
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was meeting new people who were working towards being exactly what I wanted to be.... a teacher.
I will miss the professors who genuinely cared for me and gave me advice, some of which emailed me congratulations this week.
Find a balance between your studies and your personal life. Stay focused but never forget to enjoy being young and have fun. Always be safe and keep your eye on the prize, graduation!

I'm going to miss everything. The faculty, staff, and the campus itself. However, I am looking forward to getting out in the real world and starting my career!
Stay on top of everything and do the work. If you need help, talk to your professors. Most of all, don't give up!
My RA position, and making so many bonds all across campus.
I’m going to miss the pace of undergrad life, but I am looking forward to starting grad school!
Get involved, accept opportunities and have so much fun.
Traveling to San Antonio a week before COVID lockdown with some of the Folio staff for the AWP Convention! And surviving!
My favorite part of my time at SCSU is going greek and joining Omega Zeta Pi. Without OZP, I would never have met my best friends and made the countless memories that I will never forget.
Give Southern a chance! As a transfer student, I was not initially thrilled about coming to SCSU. However, it took only a short time for me to realize Southern was the best choice I could have made. From faculty and professors that truly care and want to see you succeed, to a student body that is so engaged and supportive of one another, SCSU truly feels like home.
I loved attending football games and cheering on the team. I'm also glad that I was able to be a part of the Class of 2020 government and had the opportunity to study abroad in Scotland!
There are so many things I'll miss about being a SCSU undergrad. I'll especially miss being able to see my best friends every day. I was so fortunate to meet amazing people at Southern and even though we may not be living in the same building, I know I'll always be able to count on them! I look forward to continuing my education at SCSU as a student in the Speech-Language Pathology Master's Program.
Like most things, the college experience is what you make of it. This is a great time to meet new people and get involved on campus. Enjoy every moment because people aren't lying when they say college flies by! Also, if you have the opportunity to study abroad definitely do it.
Laughing with the lifelong friends that I have made and making memories that will last a lifetime.
I will miss hearing stories from my professors about their teaching journeys. But I look forward to giving back to the education world that has given so much to me.
Study for that test but go grab ice cream with your best friends. Write that 10-page paper but go for a walk around campus. Take it all in because it goes by so very fast and most importantly always be yourself and never let anyone change that.
All of the English events and my teaching internship last Spring.
I'm going to miss my incredible English professors and the Darkroom. I'm most looking forward to teaching in the future--hopefully a class that combines literature and photography.
Be free! Have fun (but be responsible). Love yourself, love those around you. Learn about yourself, use that knowledge to grow and be a better you.
Don’t feel like everything has to be rushed. Life is not a race, it’s a marathon. Everyone keeps their own pace to reach their personal finish line!
Don’t feel like everything has to be rushed. Life is not a race, it’s a marathon. Everyone keeps their own pace to reach their personal finish line!
Meeting new friends and going to different activities that the school had offered. I also really enjoyed going to the gym and all the clubs that the school had.

I am going to miss my best friends, greek life, and the professors that helped me get to where I am today. I am looking forward to graduate school here at SCSU with the Recreational Therapy department.
College goes by quicker than you think, never waste a minute of it. If you’re scared to try something new, go do it anyways. You will not regret that decision. Make the most out of your college experience and join as many clubs as you can. The 4 years I spent here at Southern have been the greatest 4 years of my life.
The individuals I have met while being a resident advisor.
I will miss the chemistry Department professors because they helped mold me to who I am today. I am looking forward to the beginning of my journey outside of school wherever it might lead me.
My favorite part about my time at SCSU was living in New Haven for the time being. I loved being around the delicious food, the fun nightlife, the city, the history, the art, and all the memories I’ve made!
I am going to miss living in the dorms and all the friends that I’ve made and lived with throughout my years at SCSU! Living at Southern in North campus was the first time living away from home and I wouldn’t regret a thing about it. I enjoyed all of my roommates that I’ve had the pleasure to live with and I am looking forward to keeping the friendships that I have made along the way. I am also looking forward to my future career and being able to work with children in some manner and get to express myself through arts. I also look forward to possibly going off to get my Masters eventually!
My advice to give to incoming students would be to live each day to the fullest, because before you know it your college years of living free, eating junk food and being within walking distance of your closest friends comes to an end. I would also say that it is okay to go beyond your major to take other classes that interest you and possibly change your major if what you started is not what you end up wanting to do in the long run.
Met my girlfriend and Computer science club.
Friends, walking around campus, goofin around. I look forward to the opportunities ahead!
1. Prioritize school over fun, it’s worth it 2. Get as much help as you can get
I had a lot of fun at SCSU. My favorite parts were going to Shake Shack with friends, the student appreciation day carnivals, the culture fest, and evening seminar during Fall 2019 with the Special Education classmate crew during student teaching.
I am going to miss seeing friends and classmates every day on campus. I am looking forward to seeing those smiles and hearing the laughter of my future students.

Club meetings and trips!
I am going to miss my friends, our group study, my club, my professors, advisor, and the leadership program. I am looking forward to come back and share my experience with my fellow OWLS.
Whenever you encounter challenges, consider them as opportunities to grow. Do not be afraid of failure and be an adversary to fear. Turn your weaknesses into strengths. Be involved on campus and enjoy your journey at Southern.
The Southern community is extremely warm and welcoming. Every turn I made, I saw a friend, fellow classmate, or faculty member. From the longest conversations, to meetings I have had, turned into incredible memories that I will always take with me.
I am going to miss library sit-ins, hugs from my friends on the academic quad, and all of the academic pieces (readings, papers, and projects) that gave me the education I have today. I am most looking forward to all of the incredible opportunities I have ahead of me because of all the Southern has done!
To incoming students, savor every moment. Every long paper you don’t want to do, every long article you don’t want to read, a long walk from your dorm to Davis, take it all it. It will all be worth it and before you know it, it will be a memory that you will always cherish. Cherish the friendships that come and go, everyone comes into your life for a reason, a lesson learned. Be safe, have fun, and laugh a lot!
My favorite time at SCSU was joining a club that was totally out of my comfort zone. Everyone there was very supportive and made me feel welcomed!
I am going to miss being in class. I thought I would never say this, but I enjoyed meeting new people and making friends. I am looking forward to working in the school setting and changing children’s lives.
Live it up but stay focused. Don’t get distracted. If you can follow that, you will achieve.
The people I met and football.
The people I met and the relationships I built with football, class and my social life.
Work hard and have fun! You'll never get these 4 years back.
I am going to miss all the great professors who helped me become the student I am today. I look forward to attending graduate school and becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Take full advantage of all the great opportunities Southern has to offer!
Being a part of something bigger than myself
I'm going to miss all my friends, however, I know that I have friends for a lifetime now.
Take a risk and push yourself to do something you wouldn't normally do.
My favorite part of my time at Southern was living on campus. I've enjoyed the living experience so much. I wish I could've stayed there a few more months before I graduated. I enjoyed my roommates a lot, and I hope I can see them again soon.
I'm going to miss being in the newsroom a lot, I've enjoyed my experiences there so much. I'm going to miss seeing all of the wonderful friends I've made. Although my time here is ending, I look forward to hopefully finding a job and being even more independent in my life.
Absolutely cherish everything you do here, it will be over before you know it.
I’m going to miss the social environment on campus. I’m looking forward to starting my career and achieving my life goals.
It’s ok to come into college not knowing what you want to pursue. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed. Build relationships with faculty. Your time here will be over before you know it. You can and you will get through college.
Some of my favorite memories include getting involved in clubs like Best Buddies, Habitat for Humanity, SISTAS, and Noteorious, sitting on the Buley Patio im a warm sunny day, laughing and having a good time with my friends and having the chance to work with all of my amazing coworkers at the Academic Success Center, President’s Office, and Education department!
I’m going to miss the people, the warm sense of community and all of the fun events! I am looking forward to getting into my field and start my career!
I would tell incoming students to enjoy the ride, work hard, try new things, and be present in the moment! Make sure you take advantage of every opportunity presented! Make memories, laugh often, and stay balanced!
Trying to find free food/SCSU merch every single week since freshman year haha!
I'm going to miss exploring Hamden and New Haven with one of the best friends Southern had to offer: Haneen Hamid!
PLEASE ALLOCATE YOUR TIME AS BEST AS YOU CAN, it is possible to get through your classes without losing your social life. Friends who can't respect your hustle and be patient with you, perhaps they aren't supposed to see your happy ending with you and that's okay!
Being able to work at the University Access Program. I am so grateful that the staff took me in even though I'm not an SEOP student and still made me feel included! I'm so thankful for all of their help and compassion I enjoyed sitting on the Buley patio with my friends when the weather was nice, and going out with my friends during the weekend! (R.I.P Brother Jimmys)
First of all I'm going to miss the rest of my senior year and all of the memories that could have been. I'm going to miss living in New Haven and being able to get food downtown in New Haven at 2 am. My time at Southern pushed me to find myself.
I am going to miss finding quiet spots to read in the library!
Study, even when you don’t want to.
There have been so many fun times, but the one that sticks out to me the most is the Mindful Life Coaching Workshop I took with Denise Zack back in my Junior year. It taught me a lot of life skills that I continue to use to this day in order to live a happier, stress-free life. I will take these valuable skills into my profession as a nurse because I know I'm going to need them!
I am going to miss the beauty of Southern's campus on sunny days. I am also going to miss a lot of the faculty and peers that I've met. I hope to see you one day again! I am looking forward to being a Southern Alumni and saving lives as a nurse!
There will be days when you will have a lot going on, but a simple trick to not feeling overwhelmed is to simply be where your feet are. In other words, be here. Be present. Enjoy each and every moment!
The bond forge between my coworkers and classmates.
Take advantage of the opportunities provided to you. Southern’s staff is really your best friends.
Any time spent with the SCSU Track and Field team.
I’m going to miss my team. I’ve made a lot of friends, and I’m sad I didn’t get to see what my girls and I could do this outdoor season. I think that I’m looking forward to a new adventure, and seeing where life takes me now that I’ve finished college.
Take it one day at a time. People aren’t kidding when they say it goes by in a flash.
My friendships! I have made so many friends in my time here, both on the track team and around campus, and shared plenty of memories to last a lifetime.
I think I’m going to miss my team the most. The track team here at Southern is easily the most energetic and supportive team I’ve ever been on, and despite my
Take it one day at a time, because it goes by faster than you realize
What I'm definitely going to miss the most about Southern is being in the campus environment in general; going to campus events, sports games, and most of all, being with my friends everyday. After graduation, I look forward to moving from Connecticut down to Florida and starting my new journey.
Just being in the campus environment in general, whether it was going to get Dunkin at the Student Center, sitting outside of Buley on a nice day, or just going to sports games with friends.
I’m going to miss being able to see my friends all the time on campus. I look forward to starting my next chapter in life and moving down to Florida.
Make time to get involved, and try to make a balance between school and a social life.
My favorite times at SCSU were the opportunities to have met and learned from some of the most knowledgable people (Professors) in their field. It was amazing learning about things I was interested in, trying new things I have never done before, and even making mistakes that have helped me grow. However, the best part was being in a supportive environment with both faculty and fellow classmates.
I am going to miss learning in a classroom setting. I am going to miss annoying my professors with lots of questions. However, I am looking forward to teaching my own class and hoping to have students just like me, who want to know and learn more.
Learning to manage your time and not procrastinate will help you tremendously and will minimize stress. You will meet many people with different views, and that's okay- keep an open mind! Also, work hard at everything you do. The reward of success is worth it. Even if you don't succeed the first time, pick yourself back up, dust your shoulders off try again! Do not give up, I know you can do this!
I enjoyed doing homework, and catching up with friends in the English Common Room.
I am going to miss being lectured by some of the most empathetic professors I've ever met.I'm looking forward to using the tools, and techniques I've learned in the classroom.
“The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.”– Chinese Proverb The journey of being a student won't be easy. There will be days when quitting seems like the best thing to do, but I urge you to carry on, and excel with grace.
The on-campus events & clubs that truly build a sense of community on campus.
I am going to miss all of the compassionate, inspiring, & empathetic people that I’ve met at Southern. Not to mention Conn’s Au Gratin Potatoes. 😋
Put your faith in Jesus Christ, He is the answer to all of life’s uncertainties. Pray, study hard in Buley library until you’re done with your day’s work- THEN go to the Buley patio events. 🤣
My favorite part of SCSU was meeting all of my amazing friends and professors! Thank you for guiding me through this journey.

Taking a Larry Nye class.
I am going to miss my wonderful professors most, and discovering new subjects. I am excited to see where the future takes me and what careers I may pursue.
The advice I would give new students would be to study hard, take fun classes; classes you never thought you’d take, join clubs and be active on campus. But most of all, make some amazing memories and soak in everything.
Orientation, that feeling that I felt of being able to accomplish something I thought was unreachable. Being on a college campus for the first time and doing all of the activities was so fun. SCSU gives it their all at orientations!! Joining Olas was another amazing time. Joining the dance team and performing at all the school events. Joining the SCSU Dance Team, I was able to dance at all the basketball games and football games that were always so fun and our school always supported each other. SCSU had the best team spirit. Getting to sing at the talent shows, and events like the Martin Luther King Jr. Event.
Never take any classes for granted. Even when you might think “it’s an elective” absorb all the knowledge you can. Every kind of education is worth knowing a little about. BE EDUCATED and LEARN!
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was living in the dorms. I met some of my best friends there. Each dorm I lived in seemed to turn into a magical get away. Decorations hung up everywhere, cool lights and the best part my roommates who always made me feel more at home than ever.
I am going to miss the dorm life as I move into my own apartment. I am considering staying at SCSU for graduate school since my experience has been amazing so far! But I am looking forward to the future wherever it may take me!
The advise I would give to incoming students is do not be nervous! College is such an exciting time. It is easy to make friends and find people with similar interests as you here! You will make friendships that will last a life time!
My favorite part of my time at SCSU was the swim team. I was constantly surrounded by the best friendships and had the most amazing support system. The team is my family and made me who I am today.
I’m going to miss my teammates and being a student-athlete the most, but I am looking forward to continuing my education in graduate school and using the educational tools that SCSU has equipped me with.
Some advice that I would give incoming students is to take advantage of all the opportunities that SCSU has to offer and expand your network of connections.
Biomechanic and Fitness Management LABS not the lab reports.
I am going to miss Dr. Gregory's motion capture treadmill, I am looking forward to what my next professional venture will be.
Persevere
Being involved was the best part of being at Southern. Literally, I say it all the time. If I could take a semester to just do student involvement, I'd do it.
I'm going to miss my fellow Owls the most, and I am looking forward to deferring my loans. Just kidding, I'm also looking forward to taking the awesome experiences that I had here and using the skills that I got from them in a career!
You're probably tired of hearing this, but GET INVOLVED! Join a club, go to events, go to your hall meetings, do a sport, because if I've learned anything from COVID-19 taking me away from campus, it's that the memories you make and the experiences that you have with your people are what matters. You'll get your degree, but the real growth happens when you get involved.
Being able to work on all the theater productions in the background as an audio designer and engineer. Getting to work a long side many professionals in the business and getting hands on work was the best education I could ask for.
I'll miss a lot of the walks around campus and off campus coffee runs, playing in the Crescent Players Open Mics, but I am excited to start my journey into the working world of audio design and engineering.
Work hard. Study. Ask for help when you need it. There will be times when you feel like you aren't getting the help you think you need, but thats okay. There will always be someone around to lend you a hand. Just ask.
Taking creative writing classes with Tim Parrish.
I’m going to miss living on campus, studying in the library with my coffee and talking with friends. I’m looking forward to building connections in the future.
Don’t take anything for granted. Speak with your professors and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Making life long friends and connections.
I will miss late night conversations about the weirdest nonsense while eating More Than pizza. I am most looking forward to getting a job when quarantine ends.... hopefully.
Take your education into your own hands! If you want to graduate early or fit in certain classes or never take a Friday class you can make that happen on your own.
My favorite time at Southern is spending time in time at the library doing homework and sharing my thoughts with my classmates during social work class, and getting food at the Adanti Center.

My advice for incoming students is to know that Southern is a school with dedicated faculty members who will be there to support them in achieving their goals. SCSU students' body is diverse, and the school fosters a sense of community belonging.
